Write a one-page document with every block type

kind: drill

Write an AsciiDoc document containing: a title with table of contents, two sections, a nested list, a table with a header row, a Java code block, a tip and a warning. Convert it and look at the result.

Solution

The two errors that show up in almost every first attempt: a missing blank line before a list or table, so the markup is printed literally; and an accidental four-space indent, which turns a paragraph into a literal block. Both are visible immediately in the HTML, which is why converting early is worth the ten seconds.

Turn a described process into a PlantUML diagram

kind: drill

Draw as a PlantUML activity diagram: a student opens the booking page, picks a session, the system checks whether the session is full, and either confirms or offers the waiting list.

@startuml
<style>
element { BackgroundColor #EDF3FA; LineColor #7C93AD; FontColor #21303F }
arrow { LineColor #5A6B7D; FontColor #21303F }

:open booking page;
:pick a session;
if (session full?) then (yes)
  :offer waiting list;
else (no)
  :confirm booking;

Change one line of the text and rebuild — that is the property a PNG does not have.
